The Skills Centre

Help us raise £2000 during the Big Give Campaign

During the Big Give campaign in 2025 we raised £1180 this will enable us to ship, chairs, desks and computers to the centre.  We'll also be able to install solar panels to give electricity to the centre.
in 2024 in response to the Kush Crisis the government in Sierra Leone put a rehabilitation programme in place, to help young people who were addicted to Kush.
The programme supported people who were in further education before becoming addicted. There is no support for those who finish the rehabilitation programme or those who were not in further education.
Our response was to accelerate the building of the Skills Centre, where trained young people will:
  • sensitise other young people about the dangers of kush
  • peer mentor others who have finished the programme enabling them to:
    • find accommodation
    • go back to education
    • find vocational training or a job
The skills centre will also serve as a training centre for the community.
Thanks to the generosity of St Mark's, Kennington (London), we've been able to complete the building.  Click the images below to see the stages of the building. We've also been donated tables, chairs and a few refurbished laptops.  We are close to opening the skills centre this year (2025).

Progress

Skills Centre Building construction project started in 2019, the site was cleared, the foundation laid, the plinth beam was added and blocks were laid. Work stopped in 2022 due to lack of funds.

With support from St. Mark's Church, Kennington in 2024, the work progressed from tie beam stage to increase the height of the building. This is to prevent the roof sagging.

Skills Centre2

Once the height had been increased roofing the Skills Centre was completed in December 2024.

Skills Centre3

Currently the skills centre has been secured with window guards and a door.
